Lawrence High Students Get National Attention w/ Music Video

A music video produced by students at Lawrence High School is getting some national attention. The Kansas-themed video caught the attention of a producer at MSNBC, who then wrote an online article about it for the Rachel Maddow Show. As KPR's J. Schafer reports, the music video puts a new twist on an old tune familiar to many Kansans.

Statewide Poll Shows Support for Smoke-Free Law

A poll released today (WED) shows that 77 percent of Kansas voters are in favor of the state’s new smoke-free law. The law, which took effect in July, prohibits smoking in most public places. In addition to finding broad support for the law, pollster Glen Bolger says that 59 percent of voters responded that they would be less likely to support a candidate who wants to repeal it.

The poll was paid for by several organizations that lobbied for the law and are now gearing up to fight an expected effort to repeal it.
They hired Bolger – who does polling for several Republican members of Congress – to bolster the credibility of the survey results among conservative Republicans in Kansas.

Stay home! That's the word today (TUE) from Kansas Governor Sam Brownback, who's declared a state of emergency in more than 50 counties as a result of the massive winter storm. The eastern half of Kansas has been hit hard by a blizzard and earlier this (TUE) afternoon, the governor and other state officials held a news conference to address the situation. Here's an excerpt from that news conference, beginning with Major General Lee Tafanelli, the state's Director of Emergency Management.

That's Governor Sam Brownback, speaking this (TUE) afternoon with reporters, about the state of emergency that now exists for most of eastern Kansas.
