The Mont Alto Motion Picture Orchestra Live at Kansas Public Radio February 28, 2020

The Mont Alto Motion Picture Orchestra, a chamber quintet from Colorado, was in town for
the Kansas Silent Film Festival on February 28-29. As part of the festival, they stopped by
the Kansas Public Radio live performance studio with Tracey Goessel author of the definitive biography
of silent film star Douglas Fairbanks, and Bill Shaffer, producer/director at KTWU TV. The group played excerpts
from the scores to the silent films Leap Year and Robin Hood, which were featured at this year’s festival. 

Violinist Tessa Lark live at Kansas Public Radio February 21, 2020

Violinist Tessa Lark came to play for us Friday, February 21, 2020, and to tell us about her concert with the Topeka Symphony Orchestra the next night. Kyle Wiley Pickett, conductor with the Topeka Symphony, was also on hand. Tessa was the soloist in SKY, a Bluegrass-inspired violin concerto written for her by Michael Torke.

Larry Figg and Robert Pherigo Cello and Piano live at Kansas Public Radio February 17, 2020

Cellist Lawrence Figg and pianist Robert Pherigo came by to tell us about their free Brown Bag concert this Friday, February 21, at the Westport Center for the Arts in the Westport Presbyterian Church in KC. Listen to their agile and amazingly fresh renditions of Beethoven's Fourth Cello and Piano Sonata, 3 Short Pieces by Anton Webern, and the Debussy Cello and Piano Sonata. 

KU Opera presents Cox and Box plus Riders to the Sea double feature live at Kansas Public Radio January 21, 2020

Winston Sullivan, bass/baritone, sings the first aria from Cox and Box, a very funny one-act show by Burnand and Sullivan. KU Opera presents a double-bill Friday at 7:30 p.m./Sunday at 2:30 p.m. with Cox and Box plus the short Ralph Vaughan Williams opera Riders to the Sea.

Miles Swaminathan live at Kansas Public Radio January 6, 2020

Kansas City pianist Miles Swaminathan came to play Debussy, Chopin, Liszt and Norman Dello Joio
for us before his winter break ended at Olathe Northwest High School.  An active sophomore at age 15
Miles is already well on his way to becoming a top concert pianist.   Currently studying piano with
Professor of Piano at UMKC Conservatory of Music, Dr Robert Weirich, Miles is working on the
Mendelssohn Piano Concerto No 1.   Miles Swaminathan has played at the Kauffman Center for the
