Wichita Buys All-Electric Bus as City Fleets Move Away from Diesel Power

By the end of the year, Wichita Transit will begin operating the first new, battery-powered all-electric bus in the state. It’s one of 11 the agency has purchased. City transit fleets throughout the state are planning to move away from internal combustion engines.

Rural communities throughout Kansas continue to lose population as powerful economic forces nudge people to larger cities and suburbs. But some social scientists say there are ways to shrink smarter by focusing on improving the quality of life rather than chasing businesses that might never come.
