KPR opened its first full-time Statehouse Bureau in Topeka in January of 1978. Ever since, KPR's Statehouse Bureau, which is often called the KPR-Network, has provided gavel-to-gavel coverage of the legislature, executive and judicial branches of Kansas government and other stories of statewide interest. KPR is the only broadcast outlet in the state that maintains a full-time, year-round bureau at the Capitol.

Governor Hopes to Land Space Command Headquarters in Kansas

Aerospace and avaition have deep roots in Kansas. President Eisenhower, from Abilene, started the nation's first space program when he created NASA. The city of Wichita became famous around the world for manufacturing aircraft for some of the biggest names in aviation history: Boeing, Cessna, Beech, Stearman and Lear. Kansas has also produced four astronauts.

Could Kansas become the headquarters for the new U.S. Space Command? Governor Laura Kelly hopes so. She announced today (FRI) that four Kansas communities are hoping to land the headquarters: Derby, Wichita, Leavenworth and Kansas City, Kansas.
