From A to Z: Kansas at 150 -- Part 2

Kansas kicks-off a year-long birthday celebration tomorrow (SAT) when it turns 150-years-old. Yesterday (THUR), KPR's J. Schafer began taking stock of the state's people, places and history. Today (FRI)... we present the second half of his series, "Kansas from A to Z."

As part of the state's birthday celebration, the Kansas Museum of History in Topeka will open a new exhibit later this (FRI) morning. Admission is free and doors open at 9 o'clock for the exhibit titled: "150 Things I Love About Kansas."

From A to Z: Kansas at 150 -- Part 1

Kansas officially celebrates its 150th birthday this weekend. The state has less than one percent of the nation's population, and yet... in terms of its contributions to society, Kansas is quite possibly the most productive piece of land in the world. In the first of a two-part series, KPR's J. Schafer takes a look at Kansas from A to Z.

KS Senators Introduce Kansas Day Resolution in Congress

Kansas Senators Pat Roberts and Jerry Moran have introduced a resolution in Congress asking the rest of the nation to take note of Kansas -- and its 150 years of statehood. More from KPR's J. Schafer.

Ford Invests $400 Million in KC Plant, 3,700 Jobs Saved

Ford Mortor Company says it's investing $400 million dollars in its existing assembly plant in Kansas City. Ford's Vice President of Manufacturing, Jim Tetreault (TAY-troh), says the Claycomo (clay-KOE-moe) plant is being upgraded so it can produce a new vehicle.

Tetreault (TAY-troh) wouldn't discuss details of the new vehicle coming to the Kansas City plant. Currently, the facility produces the F-series pick-up trucks and the Ford Escape, but production for the Escape is moving to a plant in Louisville, Kentucky.

Knology Takes Over Former Sunflower Broadband Facilities

Knology, Incorporated -- a Georgia-based cable TV company -- held a ribbon-cutting ceremony in Lawrence today (TUE) to celebrate its entry into the local media marketplace. Knology acquired Lawrence-based Sunflower Broadband last October. Knology CEO Rodger Johnson says other than the name change, customers won't see many changes.

Knology paid about $165 million to acquire Sunflower Broadband. The sale included Sunflower's cable and phone service as well as Channel Six News and Free State production facilities.
