Amnesty Day Helps Kansas Parents Behind on Child Support

About 40,000 Kansas parents have failed to make child support payments within the last 45 days. Bench warrants are often issued for parents who fall too far behind on their payments. But next week, the state is offering a "Child Support Bench Warrant Amnesty Day." Theresa Freed is with the Kansas Department of Children and Families.

Freed says parents facing arrest can make a child support payment next Friday (September 25, 2015) and have their bench warrant dismissed. Last year, the state offered an amnesty day pilot project in Wichita, which resulted in the dismissal of more than 50 bench warrants.
