Commemorating 200 Years of the Santa Fe Trail - Part 3 (Wagon Ruts)

With spring now upon us, you might be looking to get outdoors. If you're on the lookout for places to take a walk and get some fresh air, it's hard to do better than a patch of native prairie. There's a new walking path open, not too far south of Lawrence, that circles around such a prairie, crossing through ruts left behind by freight wagons traveling on the Santa Fe Trail. As we continue our monthly series about this national historic trail, Rex Buchanan pays a visit to the Blackjack Ruts with Roger Boyd of Baldwin City, who played a key role in the development of the new walking path. This segment comes out of an ongoing documentary project about the Santa Few Trail and is narrated by Dave Kendall, of Prairie Hollow Productions.

Visitors can check out the new walking trail next to a small roadside park on U.S. Highway 56, about three miles east of Baldwin City. To learn more about the Santa Fe Trail and this documentary project that's still in progress, visit Prairie Hollow Productions on the web at PrairieHollow.net.
