”Maria the Mexican” Brings New Music to Lawrence

The Lawrence and Kansas City-based band, “Maria the Mexican” has been attracting national attention for their spirited fusion of traditional Mexican music with more contemporary sounds. The group, led by two Topeka natives, is at work on their third album and have added some new members to their band. They’ll debut some of their new music tomorrow (FRI) night at the Bottleneck in Lawrence. Kansas Public Radio's Tom Parkinson spoke with one of the group’s co-leaders, Maria Cuevas, and asked her about their new music and about the band’s name.
