A new survey shows nearly one in four Americans volunteered their time in 2014. The annual Volunteering and Civic Life in America Report was released by the Corporation for National and Community Service, the federal agency for service and volunteering. CNCS President Wendy Spencer says Americans volunteered nearly 8 billion hours in 2014.
Spencer says Kansas ranks in the top five, nationally, for the number of volunteers donating time to help others.
Spencer says volunteers provide critical support to the nation's nonprofit organizations, offering time, skills and monetary support. The research also found that volunteers are almost twice as likely to donate to charity as non-volunteers.
