Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins of the 2nd District of Kansas has introduced a new bill aimed at preventing President Obama's plan to close the Guantanamo Bay detention center. Jenkins says she fears Obama will issue an executive order to close the Cuban prison and some of transfer its detainees to the military prison at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.

The federal government is considering several facilities as possible holding sites for the detainees including the United States Disciplinary Barracks in Leavenworth, which is in Jenkins’ district. Jenkins says moving the suspected terrorists to Fort Leavenworth would constitute a direct threat to the residents of northeast Kansas.
