State officials have released new figures on the number of COVID-19 cases in Kansas. As of Thursday, the number of coronavirus cases statewide had climbed past 500 and included 13 deaths. Dr. Lee Norman, the secretary of the Kansas Department of Health and Environment, hopes to increase the number of people who are tested for COVID-19. He expects to receive about 64,000 of the newer, faster testing kits in the coming weeks. These newer tests can produce results in 45 minutes. Norman says that will improve the state’s ability to track the spread of the virus.
