Hospital Association Clashes with Brownback on Medicaid Expansion

The president and CEO of the Kansas Hospital Association sent a letter last week to Governor Sam Brownback, telling him that Medicaid expansion would help the state's hospitals to become more innovative. The letter was a response to Brownback's recent comments suggesting innovation, not Medicaid expansion, was the best path to financial stability for the state's hospitals.

Struggling Kansas Hospitals Push for Medicaid Expansion

Odds appear low that Kansas lawmakers will expand Medicaid.  But not expanding the health insurance program for the poor will also be financially detrimental to many hospitals.  Some may even be forced to close.  The prospect of that happening has captured the attention of lawmakers who live in districts where these hospitals are located.
