Kansas legislators passed the law, despite a U.S. Supreme Court ruling that gave universities the right to require faith-based groups to be open to anyone who wishes to join.

Authorities can often recognize signs of distress or abuse in children attending public schools...but they don't get the opportunity to intervene in a case where a child's being educated at home.
