TOPEKA, Kan. (KPR) — Kansas lawmakers are scheduled to resume the 2020 session Monday, with the House gaveling in at 11 a.m., and the Senate resuming at 2:30 p.m. Legislators did not work over the weekend. Visitors are asked to stay away from the Statehouse during the current coronavirus crisis. As a safety precaution, visitors and tour groups will not be allowed inside the building. Access is now limited to individuals conducting official business. Legislators, staffers, the Statehouse press corps and other individuals with official legislative business will have access to the Capitol. For more information, visit kslegislator.org.
Lawmakers are hoping to wrap up this year's legislative business as quickly as possible in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. Health officials are also discouraging -- and in some areas banning -- the gathering of large public groups. Even without visitors, the daily population of the building is in the hundreds.
