Kansas Lawmakers Reviewing Tax Policy

Lawmakers are studying Kansas tax credits and exemptions to see if they’re still worth keeping. A special committee met Thursday to begin reviewing the state’s tax policy.

Republican Senator Ty Masterson says they may not name specific credits and exemptions to eliminate, but instead recommend a regular process to find ones that are no longer working.

“That’s why I want to look at it from a broader perspective. We need a system of review, a process by which you evaluate. That’s what I’m looking for,” says Masterson.

Masterson says there may be tax exemptions that aren’t having the intended impact or are costing the state considerably more than expected.
