Kobach to Charge First Voter Fraud Case

Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach is planning to unveil his office’s first charges of voter fraud soon. During the last legislative last session, lawmakers gave Kobach’s office the power to prosecute voter fraud. Kobach says the prosecutions will begin soon because some possible violations his office is investigating occurred during the 2010 election. "There's a five year statute of limitations for any remaining prosecutions." Kobach said. "We have to get those out the door by November so it will be during the months of September and October that we bring those."  Kobach says he expects he’ll start by prosecuting cases of double voting because, he says, those violations are the most common. Some local prosecutors have opposed giving Kobach the power to prosecute election crimes. They say they are already taking appropriate action on voter fraud, wherever they find it but they insist that such cases are extremely rare.
