The new rule would increase the number of waterways subject to federal regulations. Brownback says he's worried about the toll new regulations will take on farmers and ranchers.
“Regulation over land used decisions has always been the purview of local government and the rights of individual landowners. Kansans have had enough, they have had enough, of this type of federal overreach,” says Brownback.
The Republican governor is locked in a tight race with Democrat Paul Davis. Today (THUR), Davis also said he opposes the new EPA rule and believes it could have a negative impact on agriculture. The EPA says the rule clarifies which waterways are shielded from development under federal law.
