The measure would limit state legislators to eight years in office. But that proposal isn’t popular with the leadership of the Kansas House. Speaker Ray Merrick, a Stilwell Republican, says term limits push out lawmakers who have experience and knowledge on important issues.
The author of the bill, Senator Jacob LaTurner, a Pittsburg Republican, told KAKE TV that term limits may help combat issues like corruption. He says it would make Kansas an example for the rest of the nation, and could help lead to term limits for other offices, like U.S. Representatives and Senators.
