Week of August 19, 2018: The media is a frequent target of President Trump, going so far as to call the press "the enemy of the people." This week, the press pushed back, with more than 300 newspapers publishing editorials promoting a free press and denouncing the President's attacks as un-American and dangerous. This Truman Library Institute Event was sponsored by the White House Correspondents' Association, the first of a series of event across the country focusing the importance of a strong and independent media in America today. Margaret Talev, President of the White House Correspondents’ Association, moderated the panel, which featured Major Garrett, Chief White House Correspondent with CBS News, Karen Ball, former White House Correspondent for the New York Daily News, Zeke Miller, White House Correspondent for the Associated Press, and Dr. Betty Winfield, author of FDR and the News Media.
