Haben Girma at KU Capitol Federal Hall

Week of May 6, 2018: Haben Girma, the first deaf-blind person to graduate from Harvard Law School, on making the world a more accessible and inclusive place.  Girma was named a White House Champion of Change by President Barack Obama and recognized as a "30 Under 30" leader by Forbes Magazine.  She spoke at the University of Kansas as part of Disability Employment Awareness Month, sponsored by KU’s ADA Resource Center for Equity & Accessibility.

Kaye starts her weekends the same way you do: with Weekend Edition, Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me!, This American Life, and The Moth Radio Hour. She started at Kansas Public Radio in 2001; in 2006, she became the producer of our weekly public affairs program, KPR Presents, which changed its name in 2025 to Prairie Journal. In her spare time, she loves to read, travel, and attend theater.
