Jennifer Egan is the author of five books of fiction, including her Pulitzer Prize-winning A Visit from the Goon Squad. She work has also appeared in The New Yorker, Harper’s Magazine, McSweeny’s and other publications. On this edition of Conversations, she joins us to talk about her latest novel, Manhattan Beach. Unlike her previous novels, which are notable for stretching literary boundaries, this novel is told in a more traditional style. The story is set in New York during the 1930's and 1940's. It follows the intertwined lives of Anna Kerrigan, a Brooklyn Navy Yard diver; her father Eddie Kerrigan, a small-time gangster; and Dexter Styles, gangster and nightclub owner.
