On this edition of Conversations, I talk with Andrew Solomon, the author Far from the Tree: How Children and their Parents Learn to Accept One Another… Our Differences Unite Us. This is a young adult version of his previous book, Far from the Tree: Parents, Children, and the Search for Identity. The book explores the impact of extreme differences between children and parents. It profiles how families accommodate children who have a variety of differences: families of people who are deaf, who are dwarfs, who have Down syndrome, who have schizophrenia, who are prodigies, and more. Solomon is a professor of clinical psychology at Columbia University.
