The business of film music is notoriously male-dominated. Female composers worked on barely more than 1% of the 100 top-grossing films for each of the last 12 years. On this week's Film Music Friday we'll hear from some of the leading women film composers, including Oscar winners Rachel Portman and Anne Dudley; pioneers Doreen Carwithen, Wendy Carlos and Shirley Walker; and relative newcomers like Hildur Guðnadóttir and Pinar Toprak. The music tonight is drawn from The Shining, The Cider House Rules, Poldark, True Lies, Manchester by the Sea, Joker, Captain Marvel and others.
