AWARD-WINNING CLASSICAL GUITARIST WITH ACCLAIMED SOPRANO

Acclaimed for her extraordinary lyricism, technique and versatility, guitarist and multiple Grammy Award-winner Sharon Isbin was named the 2020 Musical America Worldwide Instrumentalist of the Year, the first guitarist to receive the honor in its 59-year history. Hailed as “the preeminent guitarist of our time,” she is the winner of  Guitar Player magazine’s Best Classical Guitarist award, Germany’s Echo Klassik and Concert Artists Guild’s Virtuoso Award, among others. As soloist with over 200 orchestras, Isbin has performed in many of the world’s finest halls, including New York’s Carnegie and Geffen halls, Boston’s Symphony Hall, Washington, D.C.’s Kennedy Center, London’s Barbican and Wigmore halls, Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, Paris’ Châtelet and Madrid’s Teatro Real. American Public Television’s acclaimed one-hour documentary,  Sharon Isbin: Troubadour, has been seen by millions on over 200 PBS stations across the country. Isbin’s catalogue of more than 30 albums, from Baroque, Spanish/Latin and 20th Century to crossover and jazz-fusion, has sold nearly a million copies and reflects her remarkable versatility.

Isbin will perform with soprano Jessica Rivera, whose voice was praised by the  San Francisco Chronicle for its “effortless precision and tonal luster.” Also a Grammy Award-winner, Rivera is one of the most creatively inspired vocal artists performing on concert and opera stages internationally. She has collaborated with many of today’s most celebrated composers, including John Adams, Osvaldo Golijov, Gabriela Lena Frank, Jonathan Leshnoff, Nico Muhly and Paola Prestini, and has worked with such esteemed conductors as Gustavo Dudamel, Sir Simon Rattle, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Robert Spano, Markus Stenz, Bernard Haitink and Michael Tilson Thomas.

Hi there! I'm Cordelia Brown, one of your classical music friends here at KPR. I'm here for the music, and for the love. Yes, love. Just like a good cook shares love along with the tasty food she provides, hopefully, I'm showing and sharing love with the great classical music here each weeknight. Main reason for every piece of music we play? We hope you'll like it. That it'll add to your life, whether it makes you think, brings you a memory, relaxes your, or charges you up.
