Kansas GOP Leader Proposes Dress Code For InternsTOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — A Kansas lawmaker says her proposed rules governing the appearance of legislative interns is the result of complaints she has received about decorum in the Capitol.House Speaker Pro Tem Peggy Mast's suggested guidelines have gotten mixed reviews, including a suggestion that they raise First Amendment issues.Under the Emporia Republican's plan, female interns would be allowed to wear one earring in each ear, while male interns would not be allowed to wear earrings at all. Tennis shoes and strapless tops also would be forbidden. Anyone who violates the rules could be dismissed from the internship program.Mast's proposal also bans interns from posting unflattering photographs on social media sites or saying anything derogatory about people with whom they come into contact.==========Chief Justice Nuss to Give Update on Kansas CourtsTOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — Kansas Supreme Court Chief Justice Lawton Nuss is planning to deliver the annual State of the Judiciary from the court's chambers, making an appeal to residents about the need for additional resources to keep courtrooms open.Nuss will give his remarks on January 22nd from the Kansas Judicial Center in what is believed to be the first delivery of the address from the court chambers. The address also will be broadcast on the court's website and archived.Nuss says the address will allow him to make the case for the need for an estimated $8.25 million in state funding in the next fiscal year to operate the courts.==========Federal Jury Convicts KCK Men in $28 Million Drug RingKANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) — Two Kansas City, Kansas men are among three people convicted by a federal jury of being part of a $28 million drug trafficking conspiracy.U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom's office says 36-year-old Marvin Ellis of Kansas City was convicted Friday of eight counts, including seven related to possessing or distributing crack cocaine and one count of maintaining a residence for drug trafficking.Grissom says 36-year-old Vernon Brown of Kansas City was convicted of one count of conspiracy to possess and distribute cocaine and crack cocaine, while 40-year-old Robert Vasquez of Socorro, Texas, was convicted of one count of money laundering and one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering.Prosecutors say the men were part of a drug trafficking organization the Drug Enforcement Administration began investigating in 2010.==========Colts Rally to Take 45-44 Playoff Win Over ChiefsINDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Andrew Luck threw four second-half touchdown passes and scored on a fumble recovery, leading the Indianapolis Colts from a four-TD deficit to an historic 45-44 comeback victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in a wild-card game Saturday.It's only the second time in playoff history a team rallied from a deficit of 28 or more points to win. Kansas City (11-6) finished its turnaround season with three straight losses, two to the Colts and none more stunning than Saturday's loss.The Chiefs took a 38-10 lead early in the third quarter, but all they could muster after that was two field goals, while Luck and the Colts began their comeback.
