Kansas has a new poet laureate: Kevin Rabas, an associate professor of English at Emporia State University. On his agenda for the two-year term: compiling a new anthology of Kansas poets, and traveling the state to talk about the art of finding the extraordinary within the ordinary.

The Kansas poet laureate position isn't state- or federally-funded. Support will come from the Barton P. and Mary D. Cohen Charitable Trust and the Kansas Humanities Council's Friends of the Humanities group.
