Kansas Congressman Huelskamp Pushes to Defund Planned Parenthood

Kansas Congressman Tim Huelskamp says Republicans should take a firm stand on stripping federal funding for Planned Parenthood, even if it means a government shutdown. The renewed GOP effort to defund the group was ignited by several recent undercover videos suggesting the organization is selling tissue from aborted fetuses for research. Huelskamp thinks President Obama would be blamed if Republicans attach the measure to the upcoming spending bill. "We're going to put, probably, a trillion dollar spending bill on the president's desk and it should include no money for Planned Parenthood." Huelskamp said. "Then it will be up to the president if he wants to shut down the entire federal government." Planned Parenthood officials say the group does not profit from the sale of fetal tissue and that the tissue is vital to research and development of treatments for diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s Disease.
