Kansas Senator Pat Roberts is questioning the integrity of a new report on dietary guidelines. Roberts argues that the report, which calls for more plant-based foods and less meat, is not based on scientific knowledge. Sara Merz, with the group Advocates for Health in Action, contends there’s plenty of research supporting the health benefits of produce.
The dietary report’s being used by federal agencies which are crafting standards for school lunch programs. Roberts says nutritional guidelines have a long running bias against animal based foods.
