An activist group wants a Confederate flag removed from a park in Wichita. The group, Sunflower Community Action, says the flag doesn’t belong in a downtown memorial with other US flags flown during war times because it was not a US flag. Spokesman Ruben Eckels said the shooting of nine black people at a South Carolina church is just the latest incident connected to the flag which has been adopted as a symbol by many racist hate groups. "We actually wanted that flag down years ago," Eckels said. "To us, it is what the Jewish people would see in the Swastika if it was flying over Israel." Eckels said the flag, which has been on display at Wichita's Veterans Memorial Park since 1976, is racially offensive. The city said in a statement that officials are discussing the subject with various groups responsible for the display at the park.
