Two Earthquakes Rattle South-Central Kansas Saturday

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) _ Two earthquakes have hit south-central Kansas, and one could be felt almost 100 miles away. The U.S. Geological Survey says an earthquake measuring 3.3 on the Richter Scale hit southwest of Pratt near Sun City in Barber County on Saturday morning. A second earthquake measuring 4.0 hit in nearly the same area about three hours later. The Wichita Eagle reports that the second earthquake could be felt in Wichita.

Accused Health Care Attendant Pleads Not Guilty

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) _ A 49-year-old Eudora health care attendant has pleaded not guilty after a judge ordered him to stand trial for murder. Ronald Eugene Heskett is charged with premeditated first-degree murder in the September 11th, 2014 asphyxiation death of 65-year-old Vance Moulton, who had cerebral palsy. The Lawrence Journal-World reports Heskett was Moulton's home health care provider.

Lengthy Prison Sentence Handed Down in K.C. Murder Case

 KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) _ A Missouri man has been sentenced to about 55 years in prison in the death of a well-known dog breeder from Kansas City, Kansas. A Wyandotte County judge on Friday sentenced 52-year-old Darrell Lee Broxton to 55 years in prison.

Heavy Rains Benefit Cattle Ranchers

 WICHITA, Kan. (AP) _ Drenching rains in recent weeks across the nation's major livestock-grazing regions are greening pastures just as ranchers move cattle out for summer. The annual rite of driving cattle out to pasture comes as ranchers try to rebuild herds that were decimated when they sold off much of their livestock because of drought-shriveled pastures and skyrocketing hay prices.

Royals Grab Victory Before Rain Out

Kansas City beat St. Louis 3-2 in a game that was called by rain in the bottom of the sixth. Alex Gordon's two-run homer clinched the Royals fifth consecutive win.  Kansas City leads the major league with a record of 28-14.
