Kansas Governor Sam Brownback’s chief of staff, Landon Fulmer, is stepping down to take a different job. As KPR’s Stephen Koranda reports, another member of Brownback’s administration will take the seat as chief of staff.

Fulmer is stepping down next month to go to Washington D.C. to work for the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers. In a statement, Fulmer said he has been a car guy since boyhood.

Fulmer has worked with Brownback since 2003 in both D.C. and Kansas.

Fulmer helped craft a plan to rewrite the state’s school funding formula in 2011. That proposal stalled, but another plan to revamp school spending will be pushed in 2015.

Taking over the chief of staff position is Jon Hummell, who has previously served as the interim budget director for Brownback. Hummell is currently working as Brownback’s policy director.

Stephen Koranda is KPR's Statehouse reporter.
