Kelley Hunt's Saturday Concert Benefits Topeka's Jayhawk Theatre

The Jayhawk Theatre in downtown Topeka was the pride of the Capital City when it first opened in 1926, featuring the latest trend in entertainment - the motion picture. The grand architecture and, at the time, a state-of-the-art sound and lighting system attracted many well-known performers and orchestras in addition to movies. But by the mid-1970s, the old theatre had fallen into disrepair and closed its doors. In the last few years, a group of volunteers formed a non-profit organization to bring the grand theatre back to life. To help with the effort, native Kansas singer, composer and pianist Kelley Hunt will be performing Saturday night with her acoustic quartet to raise awareness about the push to fully restore the venue and bring fans in to see the space.  KPR's Tom Parkinson has more.

Kelley Hunt’s Acoustic Quartet performs Saturday night at the historic Jayhawk Theatre in downtown Topeka. Tickets are available at the door or at jayhawktheatre.org. Doors open at 6:00 and the show starts at 7:00.
