Remembering Our Veterans - November 15, 2019

Q: On Monday, the nation honored its veterans. Parades and special ceremonies were held all across the country. Also on Veterans Day, the University of Kansas installed a newly-reconstructed entry archway at the Kansas Memorial Union. Inside the archway, a series of stars are etched into the stone, paying tribute to Jayhawks who died while serving their country during World War I. How many stars are etched into the archway?

A: 129

The Kansas Union, at the University of Kansas, now features a newly-reconstructed entry archway. The stone archway entrance pays tribute to the Jayhawk soldiers who died while serving in the First World War. Etched into the stone in the interior span of the arch are 129 stars. Each star represents one of the fallen Jayhawks who served during WWI. According to the Lawrence Journal-World, the stars will be illuminated nightly. The new archway was dedicated on Memorial Day. KPR's Kansas Trivia Division learned of all this by reading about it in the Lawrence Journal-World. Check it out! KPR encourages everyone to subscribe to their own hometown newspaper, like we do. You'll also find a good article about the new memorial in the University Daily Kansan.
