The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Watch, in effect until 7pm Wednesday, for a small portion of the KPR listening area. However, the Tornado Watch NO LONGER INCLUDES the cities of Lawrence, Topeka, Leavenworth or Kansas City.
Thunderstorms are expected to develop quickly and move northeast across the area this (WED) afternoon. The strongest storms may become severe with one or two tornadoes, hail up to the size of ping pong balls, and isolated damaging wind gusts. The best chance for severe storms will be northeast of a Concordia to Manhattan to Ottawa line. A Wind Advisory is in effect until 7pm for areas along and south of Interstate 70. Sustained winds near 30 MPH with gusts upwards of 45 MPH are possible. Another round of strong to severe thunderstorms will impact the area Thursday evening into the overnight hours...with yet another round of storms expected on Friday. With several rounds of rainfall possible through early Saturday, flooding could become a concern.
