Q: What comic strip, which debuted this week back in 1951, takes place in Wichita, Kan.? (Hint: If you don’t know the answer, go ask Mr. Wilson.)

On March 12, 1951, Dennis the Menace made its syndicated debut in 16 newspapers. Today, the comic strip is distributed to 1,000 newspapers in 48 countries. According to its creator, cartoonist Hank Ketcham, Dennis the Menace takes place in a middle-class neighborhood in Wichita, Kan. More specifically, Dennis Mitchell and his family live at 2251 Pine Street in Wichita. Their neighbors, the Wilsons, live next door at 2253 Pine Street. The inspiration for the comic strip came from Dennis Ketcham, the real life son of cartoonist Hank Ketcham.

Fun factoid: Dennis’s dog is named Ruff, and his rarely seen cat is named Hot Dog.
