And the Winner of the 2nd Annual KPR Mug Design Contest...

Thank you to everyone who submitted an entry into the 2nd Annual KPR Mug Design Contest. The KPR staff was overjoyed with the talent that comes forward in these contests. We had 29 unique designs entered into the competition; KPR selected our top 5 and then 1,249 of you voted, selecting Daniele Green as our winner.

Daniele Green is an Elementary Art Teacher who graduated from Washburn University. Daniele loves to sew, craft, bake and play with her children. When asked about the inspiration for her KPR Mug Design Contest entry, Daniele said, "My design was inspired by radio waves playing across the land, spreading news and music. I decided to have a giant windmill that has a microphone head broadcasting across Kansas and I included some of the elements that remind me of home. I love how beautiful the Flint Hills look in the spring when they start to turn green. I love visiting sunflower fields in the fall

with their rich yellows and golds. And I wanted to include one of our state animals, and the Meadowlark seemed like the perfect fit."

Daniele shared that she has lived in Kansas her whole life and listens to KPR everyday on her drive to and from work.

KPR Staff was extremely pleased with the turnout of the impressive art from local talent for our Second Annual KPR Mug Design Contest. A big thank you also goes out to our listeners, members, and sustainers for making your voices heard about the next KPR Mug Design!

A big thank you to our runner-up winner, Andrew Thomas!

Andrew Thomas is a CAD Manager at Architect One, Inc., in Topeka, Kan., who graduated from the University of Kansas School of Architecture. Andrew enjoys golf, piano, and steel tip darts. When asked about the inspiration for his KPR Mug Design Contest entry Andrew said, "The landscapes of Kansas and agrarian design. Radio towers and windmills are built with little surface area to both climb vertically and withstand the wind. I combined this

recognizable structure with the letters "KPR" as the cross bracing. Topped with the representation of a sunflower as the windmill, it pulled all of these elements of Kansas together. The background is either a sunrise or a sunset. When you prefer your coffee is up to you!"

Andrew shared that he loves the variety of programming and the familiar names and voices of the KPR staff. Although he says, "I do miss StarDate's Sandy Wood; I hope she's enjoying retirement."
