Conversations

Conversations is sometimes serious and sometimes humorous, but always informative. Host Dan Skinner shares interviews with writers about recent works of fiction and non-fiction, featuring internationally known best-selling authors as well as new voices in literature. Conversations also shares updates on the area art scene through discussions about upcoming performances and exhibits. 

Conversations: Shannon Reilly, Topeka Civic Theatre

Topeka Civic Theatre was founded in the mid-1930s and is the oldest continuously running community dinner theatre in the country. On this edition of Conversations, Shannon Reilly, the Artistic Director of the theatre, joins us to talk about the history and mission of the organization. He also gives us a preview of upcoming performances. Topeka Civic Theatre presents over 200 performances each year for both children and adults on three stages in addition to providing theatre classes for children.

Conversations: Grant Faulkner, "Pep Talks for Writers"

November is National Novel Writing Month and Grant Faulkner its Executive Director. The non-profit organization exists to inspire writers of all ages to pursue their craft. On this edition of Conversations, he joins me to discuss his book, Pep talks for Writers: 52 Insights and Actions to Boost Your Creative Mojo.


 

Conversations: Dee Ann Miller, "Enlarging Boston's Spotlight"

Dee Ann Miller is a Lawrence, Kansas based author of both fiction and non-fiction books dealing topics such as justice, gender issues, children’s issues, health and well-being. Her writing is informed by decades of experience working in psycho-social nursing. She joins me to talk about her latest book, Enlarging Boston’s Spotlight: A Call for Courage, Integrity, and Institutional Transformation.


Conversations: Dr. David Ryan, "Living with Cancer"

On this edition of Conversations, I talk with Dr. David Ryan, co-author of Living with Cancer: A Step-by-Step Guide for Coping Medically and Emotionally with a Serious Diagnosis. He gives advice on selecting and working with an oncologist, the importance of support from friends and family, and coping strategies for patients. Dr. Ryan is the chief of hematology/oncology at Massachusetts General Hospital.


Conversations: Dan Buettner, "The Blue Zones of Happiness"

Dan Buettner is the bestselling author of three previous books The Blue Zones, Thrive, and The Blue Zones Solution. On this edition of Conversations, he joins us to talk about his latest book, The Blue Zones of Happiness: Lessons From the World's Happiest People. Buettner discusses how the areas of pleasure, purpose and pride combine to increase our level of happiness.


Conversations: Bryce Hoffman, "Red Teaming"

On this edition of Conversations, I talk with Bryce Hoffman about this book, Red Teaming: How Your Business Can Conquer the Competition by Challenging Everything. Hoffman is a bestselling author, speaker and business consultant.  In 2015, he became the first civilian to gradate from the U.S. Army’s famed red team leaders course at Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas.


Conversations: James Gleick, "Time Travel: A History"

Everyone knows what time is, right? Try explaining it to someone. James Gleik is the best-selling author of several books about science and technology. On this edition of Conversations, he joins me to talk about his latest book Time Travel: A History. He discusses its origins in literature and science, and how thinking about time travel influences our understanding of time itself.


Conversations: Carolyn Welch, Lawrence Children's Choir

Carolyn Welch is the Artistic Director of the Lawrence Children’s Choir. On this edition of Conversations, she joins us to talk about the organization, their upcoming fundraising event and concert. The 6th Annual Harvest of Harmony benefit event will be held on Friday November 3rd. The Fall Holiday concert will be on November 19th.
