The Legislature approved a $1.2 billion tax plan then passed a school funding bill that would add nearly $300 million over two years for public education.

After many hours of debate, Kansas lawmakers finally hammered out an agreement in the early morning hours (TUE). It was the start of the 109th day of the Legislature’s session. But minutes after the Senate’s 26-14 vote, Governor Sam Brownback said he would veto the package. Sam Zeff of the Kansas News Service has details.
