Work Resumes on New Kansas School Funding Bill

The Kansas legislative committee charged with writing a new school funding formula gets back to work tomorrow (THUR).  Some lawmakers say legislative leaders are twisting arms to get support for a bill that would add only $75 million to public education.  Most believe that’s not enough to satisfy the state Supreme Court.  House Minority Leader Jim Ward says the arm twisting isn’t working.

The chairman of the committee, Republican Representative Larry Campbell, denies the hard ball accusation and says he’ll personally push to add more money to the bill.

The Kansas Supreme Court recently ruled that the state wasn't spending enough money on public schools but did not specify what amount would satisfy the court.
