A group of Kansas Republican leaders met over the weekend to discuss their options for choosing a successor for Congressman Mike Pompeo in the Kansas 4th Congressional District. President-elect Donald Trump tapped Pompeo as his nominee for CIA director and he is widely expected to be confirmed. Kansas Republican Party Chairman Kelly Arnold says there are plenty of Kansas Republicans who are interested in taking over Pompeo's seat in Congress.
Some Kansas Democrats are also considering a run for the open seat, if Pompeo is confirmed. Dan Giroux, a lawyer from Wichita who faced Pompeo in the November election and Robert Tillman, a retired court officer from Wichita have both expressed interest in the job. The voters of the 4th district will hold a special election to decide who will be Pompeo’s successor.
