Kansas lawmakers will return to Topeka tomorrow (WED) for part two of their annual session. The top item on their agenda will be finding ways to deal with an estimated $290 million budget shortfall. Representative John Carmichael, a Democrat from Wichita, says he is not optimistic about coming to an acceptable agreement with the Legislature's Republican majority.
Governor Sam Brownback presented lawmakers with several proposals including transferring money from the state's highway fund and cutting funding for K-12 and higher education.
