KS Dem Party Fires Staffer over Online Comments

The Kansas Democratic Party has fired its communications director over comments he made about southeast Kansas. KPR’s Stephen Koranda reports.

The executive director of the Kansas Democratic Party, Jason Perkey, calls Dakota Loomis’s online comments “reprehensible” and says the party is offended by them.

The posting was made in an online KU sports forum, where Loomis suggested several southeast Kansas towns were contenders for the “most craphole small towns in Kansas.”

In a statement, Loomis apologized, saying the comments were “callous” and “insensitive.” He asks people not to hold his words against Kansas Democrats.

Some Republican members of the Kansas Legislature called for Loomis to be fired earlier this week.

Stephen Koranda is KPR's Statehouse reporter.
