KS Gov’s Kindergarten Plan Faces Trouble

Governor Sam Brownback’s proposal to fund all-day kindergarten in Kansas appears to be in trouble in the state Legislature. The Kansas House budget writing committee will begin considering an education funding bill tomorrow (WED). Committee Chairman Marc Rhoades, a Newton Republican, says complying with the state Supreme Court's recent ruling on school funding makes it harder to spend money on other proposals.

The state Supreme Court ruled that education funding cuts have caused disparities between wealthy and poor school districts. Correcting that imbalance could cost the state nearly $130 million.
