It would allow homemade beer or wine to be shared with guests or with judges at a competition. The bill specifies that no money can be exchanged for the drinks. Representative Travis Couture-Lovelady, a Republican from Palco, says homebrewers had been taking part in judged homebrew contests, before finding out it was technically a violation of state law. He says the bill will bring Kansas in line with laws in many other states.
If given final approval in the House next week, the bill will then go to the state Senate.
