Opponents of KS Open Carry Law Testify

(Photo by Stephen Koranda)A Kansas House committee today (FRI) heard from opponents of a bill that would stop local governments from restricting the open carry of firearms in public. Mike Taylor, representing the Wyandotte County Unified Government, says local governments should be able to make those decisions. He says it might be fine to allow open carry in some communities or rural areas, but it might not be a good idea in some other places.

The bill would also bar local governments from asking if their employees have a concealed weapons permit or regulating if employees carry concealed firearms on the job. Representative Jim Howell, a Derby Republican, is the bill’s sponsor. He says the goal is to create consistent statewide policies on carrying firearms.
