Negotiators from the House and Senate have worked out a deal on a tax-cutting bill. It would cut income tax rates, eliminate some business taxes and reduce property taxes. Governor Sam Brownback says he’s on board with the agreement.
State officials estimate the plan could reduce taxes paid to the state by more than $100 million next fiscal year and $500 million the following year. Some critics of the plan say it’s too expensive and could hurt the state’s ability to fund schools and other services.
