(Photo from sxc.hu)The Kansas House has passed a bill that would require some potential voters to prove their US citizenship before this year's presidential election. Supporters of the measure say the rule will help prevent voter fraud and should be in effect before November. Representative Ann Mah, a Topeka Democrat, believes the bill will block some people from registering in time to vote in the election.
The House vote sends the bill to the Senate. Legislators passed the proof-of-citizenship requirement last year for people registering to vote for the first time in Kansas. But senators moved the start date to January 2013 over concerns that state officials wouldn’t be ready to implement it in time for the 2012 presidential election.
