More than 1,000 people met with prospective employers today (THUR) at a job fair in Topeka. The event, organized by Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins, featured about 70 businesses and government agencies looking to hire workers. Lawrence resident Justin Flake was among those hoping to find a job. Flake is an attorney who says he's been laid off twice in the last two years. He says finding a job seems toughest for people with the least amount of experience.
The jobless rate in Kansas was 6.5 percent in July. The national unemployment rate was 9.1 percent.
