(AP) — A small northeast Kansas town that was nearly destroyed by a tornado is well on the road to recovery, despite receiving little help from the federal government. The tornado last February 28th damaged half of the homes in Harveyville in Wabaunsee County, which has a population of about 240 people. The twister also killed one person.=====Five Arrested in Wichita Drug BustWICHITA, Kan. (AP) — Five men have been arrested in Wichita for running what police call an elaborate drug ring that dealt in PCP, also known as "angel dust" or "wet." KAKE-TV reports the men, all from the West Coast, were arrested Thursday night after police acted on a tip.
  • Kansas Lawmakers Adjourn Until MayTOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — Kansas legislators have adjourned for their annual spring break. The House and Senate were in session on and off into last night (FRI). The House adjourned at about 10:30 p.m., and the Senate followed a few minutes later. They are scheduled to return May 8th to the Statehouse to finish their business for the year.=========Sweeping Anti-abortion Bill Heading to Governor's Desk TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — A sweeping anti-abortion bill is headed to Governor Sam Brownback's desk. The House gave final approval to the measure last night (FRI). It blocks tax breaks for abortion providers and outlaws abortions performed solely because of the baby's sex. The measure also declares that life begins "at fertilization," language that abortion opponents call a statement of principle and not an outright ban on abortion, though the bill's opponents are skeptical.=========Concealed Carry Bills Pass House, Senate TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — Kansas legislators have sent Governor Sam Brownback bills that would let people carry concealed firearms into more public buildings and prevent federal agents from confiscating weapons made in the state. The legislation would make it a felony for federal agents to confiscate firearms, firearm accessories and ammunition that is manufactured in Kansas and does not cross state lines.=========Classic Car Crashes into Wichita House, Kills DriverWICHITA, Kan. (AP) — Investigators are checking whether a classic car had mechanical problems before it slammed into a northwest Wichita house, killing the driver. Yesterday police identified the driver of the wrecked 1941 Packard convertible as 84-year-old Murvall Dick. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash Thursday afternoon.
