Doors will open at 6:30 and the Jayhawk basketball team is expected to arrive around 7:15.-------------------------------- NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Kansas couldn't come all the way back this time. The gritty team that had walked a tightrope all the way to the national championship game finally fell off against mighty Kentucky. An 18-point deficit against a team full of future NBA draft picks was too much for the Jayhawks, who fell 67-to-59 Monday night. Kansas had rallied from big early deficits against Purdue and North Carolina State in the NCAA tournament, giving some folks the feeling that things were meant to be this season. Such a premonition gained support when the Jayhawks dug themselves out of a 13-point hole against Ohio State in the national semifinals, setting up a showdown with the team that has been anointed the eventual national champions by many pundits most of the season. KU cut the deficit to five in the final moments of the game against Kentucky, but just couldn't muster enough offense to seal the deal one final time this season. Despite the loss, it was an amazing year for the Jayhawk Nation.
  • HARVEYVILLE, Kan. (AP) -- Harveyville officials called a town hall meeting this weekend to discuss recovery efforts after an EF-2 tornado damaged much of the community Tuesday night. The meeting was held 6 p.m. Saturday at the Harveyville Fire Station. Mayor Dustin Kuntz says it was an open forum for local residents to discuss the tornado and the transfer of duties from the Northeast Kansas Incident Management Team to local officials.The National Weather Service says the tornado had winds of up to 130 miles per hour and destroyed nearly half of the eastern Kansas town of about 250 residents. One resident was killed and more than a dozen were injured in the storm.The tornado was part of a line of deadly storms that roared through the Midwest and South much of last week.===================================================================KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- A boost in proposed funding for environmental projects along the Missouri River is angering farmers who claim last year's flooding is evidence the spending focus needs to shift to flood protection.The spending issue came to the forefront when President Barack Obama released a proposed budget last month that allots $90 million for environmental projects. That's up from $73 million in the last budget.Groups including the Missouri Levee and Drainage District Association and Missouri Corn Growers Association have been vocal opponents, saying the priority should be flood protection.===================================================================HUTCHINSON, Kan. (AP) -- A raid on a suspected methamphetamine lab in Reno County has resulted in 11 arrests, including one man who was found hiding on the roof four hours after the search began. The Reno County Sheriff's Office says many of the arrests Thursday night and early Friday happened hours after officers first arrived with search warrants. Officers seized a small amount of methamphetamine and three empty tanks that previously contained anhydrous ammonia.
